Hemmit:
Hemmit released their second CD called: RocketRide. Hemmit originates form Portland, Oregon. Their debut CD called: “What you see is what you get” was released in 2004. “What you see is what you get” was a solo project by Adam Rohosy: Songwriter (Guitar, Vox). Afterwards Hemmit recruited 2 new members: Oszkar Rohosy (Bass) and Keith Fleming (Drums). Hemmit is influenced by bands like: The Ramones, The Who, AC/DC, The Kinks, The Vines and Judas Priest witch is exactly the mix of sounds we hear in the songs of Hemmit. Hemmit holds tight to the 80’s sound of metal/rock.
Rocketride review:
Rocketride kicks off with “Hold Out”. A nice guitar intro and catchy melody makes the song one of the better songs on the album. After “Hold Out” they continue with “Millionaire” and “Hey Angilina”, both songs are a bit simple in rhythm, sound and lyrics. “Black shoes” and “Summertime” follow the same path and are also a bit simple.
But with “Yeah Right Now” the give us the reason why they made a second album. The song is powered by strong vocals and melodic refrain. Real 80’s rock! Other great songs are “Hail Mary”, “Hemmit Rock”, “SUV”and “Back in Action”.
The remaining album tracks give us a basic sound and poorly written lyrics. While I was listening to the CD I was hoping there would be a strong ballad…but it never came. I also like to believe the singer can do a bit more with his voice. Many songs sounds the same because the voice sounds the same. A little bit more depth and fire in the voice would make a huge difference.
RocketRide by Hemmit is good album that gives us a great 80’s sound. The fact the band counts 3 members makes it even more complimentary. Nonetheless I like to believe they can do better (which they will need to achieve global renown). Maybe a fourth band member (bass or keyboard) will boost the sound of the Hemmit Trio to a level which makes Hemmit unique, great and a band to follow the next years.
RocketRide score: 6
